As I enter my 22nd year of homeschooling, I am convinced now more than ever that any parents who want to homeschool their children through high school into college, career, or military, can. Earlier this year, I wrote an article emphasizing this very point. Now, I am grateful to follow up on that article with a practical e-book to help families successfully homeschool their students to college and career.
According to a recent report, in 2019, approximately 3.4% of the nation’s children were homeschooled, and in 2024, that number increased to 6.7%, representing approximately 3.7 million homeschooled children. With the continued rise of homeschooling, one would naturally assume that parents choosing to educate their children would do so through the high school years.
However, in my years of homeschooling my kids and running an academic tutorial program, I have noticed that while many families eagerly homeschool their children in elementary and middle school years, the idea of continuing to educate their kids through high school is often met with fear and uncertainty. Internal questions ranging from “Will what I offer my kids be enough?” and “What about those subjects I know nothing about?” to “Will my kids be able to get into a decent college, trade school, or even the military if I homeschool?” creep in, fueling doubt. Oftentimes, families will answer these questions on their own, aided by the many myths surrounding homeschooling, and quickly conclude that homeschooling through high school is impossible. However, the truth is that parents can successfully homeschool their kids through high school, and do so in a way that honors them as unique individuals and fully prepares them for whatever road they choose following high school.
With the ever-increasing resources and support now available, no parents should feel they cannot homeschool their children through the high school years. Part of my role as a “Homeschool Mythbuster” is to challenge the many myths surrounding homeschooling, including the notion that homeschooling through high school is impossible for the average parent. However, it’s not enough to challenge these myths. Parents need to be connected with information and resources that enable them to homeschool to college and career successfully. That is the purpose of this e-book. With it, I hope to equip and encourage parents to continue educating their children through the high school years and into whatever comes next for them. This e-book also stands as a resource for entrepreneurs looking to expand their programs to serve high school students and set them up for success after graduation. Ultimately, I hope you will reach the end of this e-book prepared for the high school homeschooling journey. Enjoy!
